    Hello Sally, this is the first video presentation blog that I have watched and I would like to say I think you did a great job. I created my blog on the music of Cuba, and I see a lot of similarities. Not necessarily in the sound of the music, because the music of Cuba is typically more upbeat than Mariachi I would say. The similarities are evident in the reason for the music and how it differs from Western Music. In your video you mentioned the more connected use of music in communities and cultures, how it is used for celebrations and marriages and other events. I think this type of connection gives the music a different aspect than a pop, rap or country song. These characteristics were present when I did my research for the music of Cuba.

    Hi Sally, I think the use of the video blog really helped explain the topic further and was overall really well written. Mariachi is a style of music I naively thought was kind of an over used Mexican stereotype, shown in American media. Learning that this push into American culture was intended has changed my perspective on the music. I’m really impressed that its promotion by the government went so well, especially because it is such historic music. I always loved the visuals of the Mariachi performers, with the twirling dresses and gigantic hats so it’s really nice to finally learn about the music.

Musical Analysis #2 - Cocaine Jesus by Rainbow Kitten Surprise  Cocaine Jesus by Rainbow Kitten Surprise (RKS) was released on May 1, 2015, as part of the Seven+Mary  album. The band is from Boone, North Carolina and this song is widely recognized as one of their earliest and biggest hits. The current members of RKS are, Ela Melo (lead vocals, guitars), Darrick "Bozzy" Keller (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Ethan Goodpaster (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Jess Haney (drums).  Cocaine Jesus By Rainbow Kitten Surprise             Rainbow Kitten Surprise members.  I interpret this song to be about relying on someone or something as a temporary fix to your issues and then getting stuck in that cycle.   Champagne Problems written by Taylor Swift and William Bowery (pseudonym for Joe Alwyn). It was written in 2020 in the United States and released on December 11, 2020 as part of the Evermore album.  Taylor Swift - champagne problems (Official Lyric Video) I think that this song is so well written and beautiful and sad at the same time. The song tells a story beautifully and descriptively. It is telling the story of a rejected marriage proposal and the heartbreak and social judgement that follows.  Pepites en Champagne writes, “This song tells the story of a rejected marriage proposal. The chorus evokes this crucial moment: "I let go of your hand as we danced, I left you standing there". These words depict the pain of rejection” (“Lyrics to the song ‘Champagne problems’ by Taylor Swift”).
